Traditional Wood Cleaner

Boats

Traditional Wood Cleaner is used extensively for boat cleaning, it can be used on timber, GRP and steel craft for the removal of rust and waterline stains and also to clean timber decks.

Wood

Dark Spots and discolouration of the wood surface are usually caused by water (especially on oak) and can be removed with Wood Cleaner. It can also be used to freshen wood colour if it has become greyed due to external exposure. In the refinishing of wood furniture, Wood Cleaner can be used after stripping to lighten and soften darker stained areas before refinishing. It can also be used as a rust remover and a stain remover in many other applications.

Features

Concentrated crystals.

For vertical applications Wood Cleaner can be mixed with wallpaper paste to make a thick solution, this mix will cling to any vertical surface and can be washed off with water.

Applications:

Lightening wood:

Lighten wood colour and restore the clarity and the natural tones of the wood without affecting the patina, especially with oak.

Use 3 – 5 oz of oxalic per gallon of hot water then apply by spray, brush or wipe on. Rinse thoroughly with water after treatment.

Removing Black Water & Tannin Stains

Oxalic acid cleans most stains from timber.

A common form of staining on wood surfaces results from contamination with iron. Wood contains a group of chemicals collectively called tannins, the amount depends on species. Oak, redwood, and cedar are rich in tannins. Tannins react with iron to form a blue-black stain on wood. Common causes of iron stain include use of un-galvanized or poorly galvanized fasteners

Dissolve 1 to 4 oz in 1 qt of warm water. Scrub stained area using a stiff-bristle brush.

Rinse thoroughly with water after treatment.

Neutralising and Refinishing

Use Ammonia or Borax to neutralise, or wash thoroughly with water prior to refinishing.

When dry, lightly sand the surface. Surface must be clean and completely dry (not just surface dry) before refinishing. Incomplete drying and retained subsurface moisture can cause finish adhesion failure.

Handling & Storage

Wear latex or non permeable gloves and eye protection, avoid getting on skin or clothing.

Use with adequate ventilation. Do not breath vapour.

Wash thoroughly after handling.

Keep in a tightly closed plastic container in a cool, dry, ventilated area away from sources of heat.
